Crunching sound while tightening screws on zipp vuka
Quote | Reply
I was tightening down the screws that hold the extensions on my vuka Aero. ( One's on the bottom). When I heard a crunching sound. Not loud but I'm a little concerned. Spec's called for 6nm. I had wrench ( small bike torque wrench) only set to 5.25 . I can't see anything busted or cracked. What do you guys think?

I would loosen the bolt and then tighten it by feel.

Were you using carbon paste? I get that sound on my Vuka Stealth. I tend to torque lower first. I used 6nM no problem.

Sound wasn't Sandy sounding. Ice maybe but not loud. I wasn't using paste at that spot but I did put a drop of locktite on the threads. I loosened and made tight by hand. My concern is that I missed the click on the wrench and crushed the carbon. I don't see anything that looks messed up underneath. But I didn't remove the extension and look under the riser. It wasn't loud so I'm a little confused as to what it was.
