Passing through and curious about the course, area etc. Thought Id maybe do a easy s-b to check it out. Is it Kosher to swim off the beach entry the IM uses? If so anything else I should know?

You can swim there. Its quite nice actually.

The only thing to know is that the water is typically about 55 degrees, so unless you are really used to swimming in those temps, Id suggest a neoprene cap along with your wetsuit.

Actually, I heard from someone that swam yesterday that the water temp is now 70 - it's been very warm the last several days.

The course goes straight out from the beach, I wouldn't recommend going that direction too far - lots of boats, jet skis, float planes etc. Most people do their workouts parallel to the beach - the swim from the beach start down to the docks at North Idaho College and back is about 1.2 miles.

Yes, while on race day, the lake always seems to be buttass cold, it really warms up nicely in the summer. by August, it's can be in the mid to upper 70s. been in it without a wetsuit many times for many hours very comfortably.

Thanks again folks, appreciate the tips. Beautiful easy swim and bike today, perfect temp and conditions. 100% fewer snakes than the IMOO course. Did almost hit a deer on my ride tho so I guess it evens out.
