Chrissie, Whitfield, Bentley & McNeice at Roth

Simon Whitfield, Gold and Silver Olympic medallist and 2018 International Team Collins Cup Captain, will team up with Chrissie Wellington in the relay Event at Roth on Sunday, July 9th. Simon will tackle some of the bike course, while Chrissie will run the marathon portion. They will be joined by Dylan McNeice, swimming specialist from New Zealand, who will be doing the swim leg, and Lisa Bentley, fellow 2018 International Team Collins Cup Captain, who will pitch in on the bike course.

How fast will they go?
How many pro-men will they beat?
How short is the course?
Why haven't the ST arm-chair warriors dissected this to death?
So many questions.

Chrissie is probably targeting a low 2:40 run (short course and she is in awesome running shape). I bet Whitfield gets beaten on the bike by the top 5-10 pro men. It's another world of riding when you've not been in competition, so I don't think they beat too many pro men overall. I don't think Simon was as strong as most of the IM bikers anyway even at the peak of his ITU days. Maybe I am wrong, but I can't recall Simon driving any bike breakaways like Alistair Brownlee does.

So much depends - are they hammering? Dylan will hammer the swim. I don't know how much Chrissie wants to turn herself inside-out on the run.

Still, I'll take the under on 8:00:00

How short is the course?
The official GPS files have the bike at 178.3km and the run at 42.4km
The bike is definitely short, just looking at the time taken from 174.2km mat to the end, it isn't enough to be 5.8km.

The run course is hard to say as it is new. Most people seemed to say that the old course was 41.5km, it looks about right now though, unfortunately!

Wasn't she running around that time after swimming and biking? Shouldn't she be able to go a little faster without a long warmup like that?

For sub 8, they need 45 + 4:30 + 2:45.

Unless he has been riding a decent amount, not sure the rider can hit 4:30. That's a really really fast time even for an ex pro with a pro engine if he has not been doing pro level training!

She ran 2:48 in London this year, don't think she will go that much faster unless course is short. Im betting on 2:47

It says Lisa Bentley will 'pitch in' on the bike course, which to me, means she's going to share it with Whitfield; seems unusual for a relay.

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that either. Is pitching in pacing him or hammering the last 20 miles? If the latter, it could help their time.

If Simon is biking the entire way, even in his peak ITU days if we put him on a TT bike told him to break 4:30 at Roth, I doubt he'd do it. Lisa Bentley was barely a 5:20 rider in Kona so not knowing who does what, they are not going to get anywhere close to 8 hours. Chrissie on the other hand will likely uphold their end of the bargain if the race is on. If it is a celebrity thing by all parties, then I can't see herself killing it so soon after an ultra, but we're talking about a special athlete who doesn't just tour when there is a timing chip involved. I don't think it is in her DNA.

Or maybe they're riding a tandem?

She tweeted a picture of her having a beer at 37km so it might not of been a pb.
