Changing Cassette from Tiagra 11-25t to 6700 12-25t Issue
Quote | Reply
I am changing my cassette from a Tiagra 11-25t to a Ultegra 12-25t set. When I put the Ultegra cassette on, and tighten the Lock Nut, There is about 1/16" play on the cassette. The Lock Nut is not hitting the cassette. Is there something that I am missing? I got the set used. Any ideas? I didn't take any pictures and put the old casette back on, but was hoping someone might have had this issue before.

Thanks!
Dan

Are you sure you're not missing a spacer?

I have the spacers in between each gear. Not sure if there was supposed to be a spacer before the first gear goes on. There is not one on the Tiagra.

Are you trying to install a 10 speed on a tiagra 9 speed? Sorry, I've seen it done.

No, It's a tiagra 10 Speed. Just found the part listing PDF and see that I am missing part #14. http://si.shimano.com/...EV-CS-6700-2924B.pdf

Have a look on the old cassette, sometimes that little 1mm spacer can get stuck on the cassette when you remove it from the freehub.

Also check if there is a different lockring for a 11T and 12T cog, in my experience they have a different lockring so make sure you're using a 12T lockring for the new cassette.
