Cervelo R7 coming soon?
So what is this "Cervelo R7" that already has UCI approval for 2015? This is documented from UCI document dated April 10, 2015. So fairly new.

That line item has a date of 2012... so the R7 is probably a model that never made it past marketing or prototype.

Not sure that makes any difference. The R2 has a 2012 date as well.

The R7 could be what Cervelo has had planned for when the UCI eventual would decide to allow disc brakes (like this year). Or I wonder if the current RCA will become the R7 and a new RCA is in the works.

Would a frame with disc brakes be on the UCI approved list today?

That's a vestige from the project that ultimately became the R5.

$2500 for r2 with 105?

Seems like a good price range for pretty great bike.

Certainly interesting.
Not in the price range of the vast majority, but I'm happy with anything that provides tech for potential trickle down.

How long before we start to see the words "P7" and "S7" on UCI docs?

I am interested what may come out of the collaboration with British Cycling over the next two Olympics .

Yes, that'll be interesting. I read an interview with Chris Boardman where he stated quite a lot of what he learnt through working with the 'Secret Squirrel' group at BC couldn't be applied to his line of bikes, etc… but obviously the contacts and methods of developing frames could, so it should be a productive relationship for both Cervelo and BC. I believe the bikes BC's work group developed were track bikes branded UK Sport bikes available on the UK Sport website - although I couldn't find them when I looked briefly now. So if the bikes BC use will be Cervelo branded, it stands to reason there shouldn't be the same restriction on the 'sacrosanct' knowledge developed during the partnership filtering through to consumer products. Which is good news.

I remember looking out of curiosity for the helmet and bike that Wiggins used at 2012.

I remember the website saying something along the lines of "Prices available upon request. Please be aware that the cost of these items reflects the considerable research and development costs combined with the small number of units manufactered."

If that isn't worded to deter unwanted customers, then I don't know what is.
There are probably about 4 Arab Sheiks riding around their compounds on them, and that's all they sold.

Hah, yeah isn't there a rule that says anything used in the Olympics has to technically be for sale on the open market, so it's all just listed at ludicrous prices.

I heard that those super-special extra-round Mavic wheels that British Cycling use cost a fortune!

That was exactly my interpretation as well.

The track wheels story had me in creases.
After all the accusation from the French about the British using illegal wheels (just because the British would coer their wheels after races), only to find out that the british were riding a French brand all along.

Yeah thats the case, which is why when Adam Hansen makes his own shoes he has to sell them on the open market. albeit for silly money.

I'd forgotten about Adam Hansen's shoes! His website list them at €2000-2500 but currently "sold out". Do the UCI rules allow you to sell one pair (to yourself) and then just claim that they were on the open market?!

I don't know how he races in those things. I hope the lining is more substantial that it looks, because my first instinct is that the edge of the carbon would cut my feet to shreds. Not to mention the shonky looking cleat attachment, I'm surprised someone with his strength could get away with tying them on!

Not sure of the exact ruling, but I imagine they have to actually have been available at some point. Price is probably enough to put most people off!

Yeah right, I think it's one of those rules that the UCI don't bother enforcing until someone kicks up a fuss. Some of the teams/national bodies willingly comply to avoid any future hassle or bad publicity, but a lot of the time it's just ignored/circumvented.

Case in point, those stubby Giro Selector helmets that everyone has been wearing for the last few years. Still haven't seen one available for sale despite plenty of people publicly calling for it.

Hey burninglegs,

Is there a Cervélo R7 coming soon? Short answer, no. While this document is from 2015, the line item application is from 2012. "R7" was simply a name we were considering for the current version of the R5. R5 owners might remember that we had two generations of this frame: one with external cable routing, and the current one with internal.

It's great to read that there is huge interest in what we are working on. Of course, we are always working on new, exciting things. However, we have no R7 coming soon.

Any questions, feel free to ask me.

Cycling Weekly in on it too. BikeRumour.com / Cyclingnews.com I believe were first. Looks like panic journalism… Got to keep those Twitter/RSS/etc feeds churning.
