Cervelo R5ca bike porn
Just got the new R5ca built up and wanted to share it with you--the Slowtwitch community! I'm half roadie, half triathlete, so go easy on me for the lack of aerobars and Zipp 808's.

Here she is:

A few specs: 15 lbs, 54 cm frame, Zipp 303s, Specialized Team Toupe saddle with titanium rails, Fizik bar tape, Rotor 53/39 crankset, Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 throughout except for Ultegra 11x28 cassette. 3T seatpost, stem, and bars from my old R3, Arundel Mandible cages, K-edge chain catcher, Cateye wireless computer, Cane Creek AER headset with upper bearing as a teflon coated metal bushing (not a ball bearing).

I've put 1100 miles on her in the past 6 weeks. And yes, I did commit sacrilege last weekend by putting clip on aerobars for a sprint tri! This weekend we'll be at 6 Gap in north Georgia, 11,000 feet of climbing over 104 miles. Definitely a dream bike. Cheers!

Very nice build & specs.
But i'm wondering why its 15pds.
Starting of with a CA...most builds of this frame with your specs weigh about 13pds or less.
Maybe calibrate your scale?
Drool bike nevertheless.

Yeah... might be less than 15 lbs. I weighed it with the saddle bag on there (with tube, co2, levers). oh and my dog was on the scale.

It'd be a perfect 10, but the Russian judge docked points for it being cross-chained. 9.5.

You'd prolly hafta fill the seat tube w/ lead fishing weights to get that bike *up* to 15 lbs.

Ride 'r hard, put 'r away wet! Enjoy.

Awesome. That's my dream bike!

Did you notice a difference going from the R3 to the R5CA in the ride and ride quality?

Agreed with the others - the build has to be less than 15 lbs. It's amazing because that's all regularly available and stock kit. Nothing super fancy.

Beautiful! Weigh her w/o the saddle bag. My 2012 R5 w/ Ultegra Di2 comes in at a touch under 15lbs w/o saddle bag.

Because of ST the first thing I look at when someone posts a bike pic is if it's in the big chainring :)

BTW that is a gorgeous bike!

Wow you guys are a tough audience.... yes ol' skewer rule #41 got me again. I live in Atlanta and will be spending the weekend up in Dahlonega for Six Gap, about 1 hr north. This proximity has been great for training in the mountains on Sundays! Anyone here riding it this Sunday?

I'll try to compare to the R3 as honestly as I can. I owned the white 2008 model R3 and put 6000 miles on it, then the black 2011 model and put 3000 miles on it. The R3 was my first real bike and it was magnificent. It never held me back on any ride. In comparison, the R5ca has a massive BB area and supposedly the rotor crankset is stiffer than Dura Ace, so it really goes when you mash the pedals. I can not discern any lateral flex. As for the weight, it is noticeable when you pick up the bike, being about 1-1.5 lb lighter. can you notice that while riding? I would need to ride them back to back to be sure. i weight 158 so we're talking about a difference of <1% here. I have noticed a few times when I pulled on the pedals during a surge that I was lifting the bike up... its extremely easy to bunny hop for example...

And of course, the matte black finish does make a difference when you're pulling the A group at 32 mph...

Thanks for all the praise! As for the photos, we've had perfect weather in Atlanta all week, and since I'm tapering I had more time for a photo shoot than a ride...

Also, shouts out to Fresh Bikes Cycling in Washington DC who sold me the frame! Jason Walder there is the man! (they are the biggest Cervelo dealer in the world!)

I'll probably be there. I live in Duluth and am getting ready for B2B so this will be my last long ride. I'll likely lineup towards the back. The start can be chaotic. 10 guys who have a shot to finish in the first group and 300 who will get dropped on the 1st or 2nd climb all trying to be in front.

Yeah I saw that R5ca.... here's the article on it
It is definitely the lightest bike I've ever held. The one I saw had lightweight wheels... they were 6k for the pair... ouch!

Oh I did the B2B IM last year! What a great race. I would recommend it to anyone. And the downtown finish should be even better than running over to the battleship this year. My one advice would be that if you have a headwind for the first 50 miles like we did (riding inland), just go on heart rate or power and stay calm, rather than leaving it all out there on the bike course!

Six gap is my A race of the year so no HIMs or IMs this year. I'm going to try to line up at the front and be one of those 300 who get dropped on Neels Gap! My goal time is 5:40--Brian Toone is a monster who did it last year in 5:07.

I did B2B a few years ago with a taiwind for the first part and a headwind in. I'd much rather have the reverse, but I tend to overbike no matter what. Still its a nice race and a nice venue.
