Cervelo NP2 Broken Headset Bearing
Recently purchased a used 2014 NP2. After removing the fork, I found the bottom sealed headset bearing to be broken. I did some on-line research and found a few other NP2/NP3 owners commenting on the same problem.

I also discovered that the new fork design does not use a traditional crown race and the fork crown is angled at 36 degrees to match the sealed bearing.

Why are these bearing breaking?

Is this a possible design defect or a manufacturing tolerance issue?? ... or was is most likely an poor assembly issue?

I can source a new bearing but hate to only have this happen again?

I appreciate any input that can be shared....

Are you saying that the actual cartridge bearing is broken? Can you post a picture?

Yes, the bottom bearing is broken into three pieces. The bearings and retainer clip are exposed in one piece. All of the bearing are in place. I'll have to see if I can upload a pic later. The upper bearing appears to be fine.

Oh it's not broken, it's just come apart.

I've seen this happen on some other bikes, one that we traveled with a lot, and I wondered if it might be due to too much preload when tightening down the top cap?

Thanks for your input... I guess "broken" was a poor choice of words :)
