If it works that is a killer price.

Sounds like a good deal, get him to buy the software so you can check everything (I actually think it might be free)

12 years ago was the last time CT updated their software anyway ;-)

I just paid $700 for one so you'd be getting a killer deal granted it powers up, has no issues and all the wires are good. The RaceMate One software can be downloaded as a trial to test the unit if he has no software. You'll want your own anyway

I just upgraded (IMO) from a CT to a kickr when my CT recently broke. But for $250, I would have definitely gotten another CT. As long as it works, that is a no brainer to buy.

Trainerroad fixed my CT. You don't want their software anyway.

+1

TR+CT Is pretty awesome. I had some issues initially getting my CT to talk to my MacBook but the service at TR is A+. Responded to emails within minutes and helped get me going.

For $250, you could drive to the source and buy new cables and still come out way ahead.

Buy it!!

Golden Cheetah will control it from a mac or PC. Free.
Load it on a laptop, bring it with you and give it a try.

Just bought a CT Saturday...It came with some older software and unsure how it works. it seems to crash. Is there any other software out there worth buying? I use trainerroad, and just did my first TR workout with it today and was awesome. I am looking for other software that does digital rides, courses i can ride, courses i can import...is that possible? I have heard of peripedal and perfpro but couldnt tell you what any of it means. any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Look up Paul Smeulders explanation of the difference between grade/mile workouts vs erg workouts to see which direction you want to go. Erg Videos are great for doing W specific workouts, which are VERY effective. Tour de Giro will let you import a gpx file of a real world course and ride a replica of it, with a bunch of pacers to race with, and has online racing. Sign up for the zwift beta too. If has a lot of promise for interactive rides.

I ride the RM1 software. I guess I am a Fred.

The reason I ride the computrainer software is that I prefer to "push" the watts on my own, rather than be "pulled" by the watts that are auto generated. I don't know if there is validity to that line of reasoning, but it works for me.

X2 PerfPRO Studio is (arguably) the best in terms of features, value, and ease of use. It does about everything...

There are other software programs that let you use both modes.
