Sucks to hear on a road that I ride almost every day. Both this couple are pretty active in the local scene and help promoting races and whatnot.

I read this after spotting a link from rainmakers page. Heartbreaking to read this, certainly gives pause for thought. Thoughts with Adelaide and Kennett.

That brought me to tears. Very familiar with that road...so scary to think about. Best of luck to her and them

Sheezh.... That is an awful story. But well-written. Let's hope she recovers fully. And gets a decent indoor trainer!

That's a vividly written piece. I can't imagine how that would feel if my loved ones were involved in it. I hope all athletes out there be really careful. Train hard but don't get hurt.

Everyone who drives a car should have to read this blog post.

It all too graphically shows what a moment of inattention or impatience can do to another human being.

Be safe out there.

Thoughts and prayers to this couple. Just reinforces everyone to be careful out there. Like the author said we have close calls almost every time we ride.

I just read this over lunch and had to step outside for a minute. This is so sad.

Kennett is a friend and this is infact, heart breaking.

Here's the article from the Daily Camera.

Even Boulder isn't overly bike friendly.

I don't know why you say that Boulder isn't cyclist friendly. If this is true, that the driver was at a stop sign and she hit him then he certainly isn't at fault.

Accidents happen and sometimes the cyclist is at fault. It doesn't change the tragedy of her injuries. But just because it is car vs bike doesn't mean the car's driver is always in the wrong. It sounds like their were witnesses.

The problem with accidents like this one is that you only get to hear one side of the story because the other side is in a coma. We don't know what really happened. Also, IMO even if the guy stopped after pulling into the intersection, the accident is still his fault. He had a stop sign and she didn't. He shouldn't have pulled into the intersection at all. It sounds like he didn't know she was there. He was looking at the other car. A common problem.

Read the comments - the driver had the stop sign, the cyclist didn't!! The driver pulled out from the stop sign into through traffic then "paused to allow turning traffic",

Ok well going strictly by the article it states that the car was stopped when the bike hit him. If this is the case then he wasn't pulling into the intersection unless I missed something. But I did read the comments and see what you mean. The article seems to side completely with the driver. It seems there are witnesses who contradict this version.

I "think" he meant that the comments section of the article show how awesome (sarcasm) some of our fellow humans are.

As I read it, he was at a stop sign, then pulled into the intersection and stopped again to avoid a car, at which point the bike hit him. Sounds like he really should not have pulled into that intersection.

My very first accident as a new driver was similar. I was on a 55mph road and there was a small cross road with stop signs. The guy coming from my right stopped, but didn't look my direction, then pulled out and stopped again right in front of me when he saw me coming. I had maybe 0.3 seconds before I T-boned him, but yeah he was fully stopped when I hit him. Still 100% his fault and an idiot move.

So tragic.

Reminds me of what happened to a friend from long ago, who was looking to be a pro triathlete. He was in 2nd place in a race at the time of this:

Pretty much ended his aspirations.

As others are choosing to debate the semantics of where the car was....I don't give a damn. Car is always bigger & tougher, car always "wins".

Please pass along my/our hopes/thoughts/concerns/well wishes to Adelaide & Kennett. And tell him well done on asking the meaningful question, even if he'll have to ask it again.

Keep us updated, if possible & let us know if there's any way to help. I'll be thinking all the happy thoughts I can.
