Bike painters?
I have a 2012/13 Speed Concept 9 that I'd like to get re-painted.
Can you guys/gals recommend some places to check out? Not looking to spend 'Joe Bell' kind of $$...
And bonus points if you can recommend any good painters located in Canada!
Thanks!!

Talk with some of the local body shops in your area depending on how custom you want to go. If you bring them the frame stripped, they will paint it whatever color you want, the sky is the limit with regards to what the cost can become with custom graphics, airbrushing, etc.

If you want a factory finish reproduced, Calfee is excellent, but again, the cost can quickly work up when they are having to custom airbrush logos, lettering, etc.

We have a triathlete on Slowtwitch who restores cars. He also paints race bike frames. You might send a PM to "nemesis". He painted mine, and it looks great! It was done last year, since then I have trained on it with both a stationary trainer, and rollers. I have also had it outside in the elements. No issues with the paint. It is also pretty sweet to have a custom painted ride!

Any near Chicago for a reasonable price? Nothing fancy, just change the base colors maybe.

If you're looking to stay in Canada, check out VeloColur. We haven't worked with them directly, but from what I've seen of their paint, they do excellent work.

If you want to venture into the States, we'd love an opportunity to work with you.

I can personally vouch for Velocolour. I had a old road bike painted by him and it came out perfect, considering some of the water bottle bosses were seized due to sweat. His prices and pics are on his site.
Also I believe he is the only authorized Cervelo 3rd party painter in Canada.

How about Iowa?
I'm the one splitz was referring to. I mainly do show cars, but painting a bike is no big deal. Let me know.

Beat me to it. Jake Kane does some beautiful paint jobs. Thinking about using them myself on my road bike before I leave the area.

I havent used them personally but Joe's was at Sea Otter this year and the results looked excellent. At $400 for a single color, I wouldnt hesitate to use his services.

I went the autobody route and it was very difficult to get right, although I was using a difficult color. I suggest using a professional, and this is coming from an avid DIYer who has done a lot of custom paint projects from cars, to boats, to bikes...

I have a 2014 Speed Concept and Im just going the vinyl wrap route. Its cheaper, easily removable. Sure it adds a little weight but that's not a huge concern.

I'd be interested to see the results.

After looking at the various websites, it looks like to get a factory like paint job, by the time they match the decals, etc., will likely be north of 1k... :(

I remember the old days when Marinoni in Montreal would repaint their road frames for $125. :)

Cheers
