Bike fit measurements a mystery
I'm getting back into triathlon as a few years lay off (military service). Put my measurements into competitive cyclists bike fit calculator. Worked perfectly for my road bike fit. Getting a new tri bike soon looking at a Titan flex. I used competitive cyclists tri bike fit. One measurement baffles me. It say I need an effective top tube of 46-48cms. which would put me on a med sized Titanflex at 81degs seat angle. I'm 183 cm or 6ft tall. It makes no sense to me to have a top tube so short. Anyone know where they get the measurement from and has anyone used their measurments to size their bike. Any thoughts great fully accepted.
Full measurements
height 183
trunk 66
forearm 37
thigh 66
lower leg 58
torso 155
Cheers

Get fit by a proper fit specialist. I was blown away by how much small adjustments made to how comfortable I felt on the fit bike. It will also give you exact numbers to plug in for a tri bike.

Your top tube will be substantially shorter on a tri/tt bike than it will on a road bike. But, I agree with the other poster that you should get a bike fit on something like Retul before you purchase a bike. An online calculator will most likely not be very accurate. It has to make too many assumptions.

Hi Wayne,

Not to sound like a broken record, but I would most certainly see a fitter. Get on a fit bike and see what position best works for you, then find the bike that best accommodates that position. Drop me a line if you've got any questions.

I'm certain there is something wrong with the Competitive Cyclist size calculator for tri bikes. I've used it a few times with my own measurements, and the top tube measurement changed a few months ago while all else remained the same. I've tried to contact them via e-mail a couple of times, but have had no response.
