Bike Quiz - 700C Clincher Wheel for 38 tire
Quote | Reply
Was at the LBS today & they can order/recoomend Shimano but I cannot find a rim brake clincher with decent width for a 38mm tire.
MEC.ca carries Alex and there's the DM18 a low-end wheel that will get the job done. Free shipping too.
Nashbar charges a premium to ship from USA> Canada

And I just made this today on the CNC - bike gurus got any guesses as to what it's for?? It did the job perfectly!

the spacing looks like it may be related to a disc brake mount ...

Doesn't everyone make wider wheels now?
Can't help you on Canada stuff.

Is the part something to do with a bottle cage mount?

That's it! 2.5" on center. Drilled two 1/4" holes in frame and press-fit the piece into holes. The frame tubing is thin-walled so I doubt it could hold a "Riv-nut" or shouldered insert type of thing.

But this is awesome, bit if 3M tape, contoured to the pipe and solid as can be:

(2nd pix didn't upload,...)

I have no idea about availability in Canada, but the Hed Ardennes Plus will definitely fit a 38mm tire.

Thanks that is a good choice. Set on EBAY for a reasonable price too.

Update on tires & wheels, gears & sprockets. I got some new Alex DM18 rims mounted to 35 tires. I rode those this weekend. OK they work and with low pressure like 30PSI the ride was decent kinda meh/OK.

Then I got my Vittoria's Cx 33's tubulars in the mail yesterday. I mounted these to my DuraAce C50-TU that look like Zipps (pix below). OMG they ride amazing! Not only are the wheels fast, light & responsive - the tires are a dream too, even at higher pressure. On the road they are great. I didn't do much off road as the tape was just setting up :). But very cool.

I have a long cage Rival derailleur with a SRAM 11-32 cassette that I swapped in on the weekend. Works great but there is an annoying murmur on the chain through most gears (???). Not a clacking, not a mis-index. But a grrrrrr vibration pedalling over say 200 watts.

I put the cassette on my tri bike w/ Dura Ace Di2, and it works great without any modification. The chain is crazy tight big gear to gear but it works.

I have SRAM chains on both bikes. PC1071 and PC1091. Cassette is PG1030 so there should be no compatibility issues. I'm stumped.

I use Jantex double-sided for mounting tubulars. Works great, super strong. Trick is you wet the tubular so it's easy to position. Then spin it/pump it up etc. and let dry out for 24 hours. There is enough grip to ride in a few hours but I wouldn't hammer and corners of course.

If you used glue, you would have less rolling resistance.
