Stick to coaching, wind tunnel, etc.
This does nothing for your brand.

Yet, if she were coached by you, it would be inconceivable and it would be all due to your coaching prowess and you would be dislocating your shoulder to pat yourself on the back on social media. Crawl back into your hole.

Think she could be pretty competitive at the elite level at open running events, but don't think that's the case with Roka as a sponsor. Giving 70.3 a shot in 2018??

She has ben fairly vocal about having no interest in doing long-distance triathlon. Considering that she had come challenges post pregnancy getting back to full body health, I don't see the long-distance racing in her announcement/future.

The add for Roka shows that some money is invested in her with this announcement outside of just finding her next challenge.

I guess we will see what she/Roka say.

Yes this is what Spirig and Jenkins said to me when I tried to talk them both into going long.

...and finally officially get on board with Nike? Cmon, she didn't move to Portland and start training on campus because she likes our weather and their pools.

“Today’s doper, brought to you by Roka!”

My first guess is Tokyo 2020. Second guess is transition to running. That could be huge for the Roka running line.

Didn’t they already do that with the fastest bike split at Kona? I kid with my ASSumptions of guilt by association.

Definitely didn't expect to see that on her page. Wouldn't she pretty much have to stop Triathlon?

Did you not watch the video? She hung up her tri suit. She's quitting triathlon.

This is pretty cool. Interesting that she moved to Portland but is still an ASICS runner. I wonder if that could change.

Do you have to be a Nike athlete to be on the Bowerman team?

Gotta quote myself on this one. Pretty surprised, but very interested to see what sort of times she could lay down. Boston 2018???

Maybe she's tired of swimming. I wish her the best, but I wouldn't bet on her medaling in Tokyo. It's too bad that her Olympic gold had no real impact on American triathlon participation so I suspect this will be non-news outside of SlowTwitch and LetsRun.

I think the interview tells the story. She likes running, and isn't motivated to keep doing triathlon. I get it. She has had so much success at triathlon and with that comes crazy amounts of pressure to stay dominant. As a fan it is disappointing because she adds a unique dynamic to the ITU racing that can't be replaced by anyone currently. We won't get to see the battles between her and Flora Duffy for example. But if she isn't motivated to train at the highest level in triathlon then she likely wasn't going to be able to defend her gold medal anyway. It could have been a hard and disappointing next 3 years. On the other hand, I don't think she has any legit shot at a win in a major marathon or Olympics. But that doesn't mean she's making a bad decision. Although I will hold out hope that she runs until a spring 2019 marathon then makes a desperate switch back to triathlon, qualifies for Rio at the last moment and we get a spectacular Olympic triathlon race. I also hope she proves me wrong and scorches the marathon scene and seeing American women win big running races becomes the norm again. Good luck to her.

I'm almost positive she'd have to be a Nike athlete. I had to watch the video twice because I was surprised there were so few Asics logos after watching the first time. With the impending rumors of her joining Bowerman, it would make sense. She has mentioned training with Shalane on occasion in Portland.

I remember ST had an interview with Ben True a couple years ago in which he was asked about Gwen as a stand alone runner. He acknowledged her talent, but didn’t identify it as the kind of world class speed needed to compete at the highest level.

We’ll have to check over at Letsrun to see how they are handling the news....

No. I just saw her Facebook post that had an unchecked box for Olympic Gold but thanks for being an smart ass. Typical slowtwitch reply when somebody gets involved with a conversation.

It doesn't surprise me after her posts about how she was loving running during pregnancy. I'd bet there are more triathlon finishes in her future.

It is sort of a sad day for triathlon. Was she the last great hope to reverse the decline of triathlon in North America?

So I guess Flora just popped some bubbly? Or she decides she can't do both tri and mountain biking and goes full on MTB...

USAT must be weeping.
