felt really good today considerin gits the first time the paddles have been out in months.. forgot how big they are

2 x 250 w/u drills
3 x (250 w/paddles - 250 swim)
1 x 100 w/d paddles

2100 SCM

I'm remembering this one for my holidays.. cause if you sat 50m away, were half blind and squinted a bit.. i looked kinda buff when I was done!

Re: April Fish Thread [tigerchik] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

main set today was:

200's freestyle starting at a 3:10 interval. The plan is to decrease the interval by :05 each time and see how many you can do before you miss the sendoff. It's a good benchmarking set that I like to do every month.

Ended up doing 13x200. The last one was 2:06 (on the 2:10 interval). I wimped out and stopped there, I just wasn't feeling motivated enough to go sub- 2:05.

I'm actually not sure of all of them. There are three different time slots during the weekdays, early morning, mid morning, and evening swims, all with different coaches and I believe another coach does the Saturday morning swims. I've been swimming early mornings with a new coach this past season, Julie Freund (hope I spelled it right).

2400 lcm this morning.

Re: April Fish Thread [klehner] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

After reading the responses to the "20 x 100" thread this week, I changed my timing protocal and went with a fixed time interval.

After a 500 yard warmup (7:01), I started my stopwatch and did 10 x 200's on 3:00. after doing the first one in 2:45, I did the rest in 2:46 - 2:49.

2,500scy

I then went out to do my usual 2 loop run (6.3 miles). On the second loop, I noticed I was only running at my long run pace. So, I added one more loop and called it my long run (9.2 miles, 1:07:09).

Do you find it odd that your warmup pace (1:24/100) was pretty much what you were holding on your set of 200s?

I think I have only one speed. In fact, my 1500 earlier in the week was 22:42. What should I be looking to do to address this?

I've added something like 6x(50 sprint ALL OUT, 6x25 EZ) once a week, and have found it to help me get over a plateau.

edit: You also might want to try using paddles during warmup; they've helped me regain my catch form and strength, despite my skepticism of using toys.

Yesterday night:
1000 W/U (400 swim, 300 pull w/paddles, 4x50 build, 100 EZ)
15x100 on :10 Legs cramped up from previous night's bike workout on #7, used a pull buoy for the rest. Went under 1:10 on all of'em!
200 EZ

still chugging along (barely). I find the motivation to swim pretty low these days -- too much pressure to ride/run, weather is finally turning better here in Ohio, and too far out from the summer season to feel the need to swim. I am just happy to get myself to the pool twice a week for now.

Yesterday:
750 warm-up (free/back mix)

4 times through:
400 pull (strong effort) on 4:30 -- all 4 were at 4:12 +/- 2 sec
4x100 IM (moderate) on 1:30

200 easy

As others have said - SPRINTS then go back to vo2 max/threshold. Sprints of 50-100 yds, all out. 4-6 x 100 off the blocks with a couple minutes' rest is way, way better a workout than it sounds.

7.4 mileages, 2500 yardages. Both felt better than good.

8 x 100 w/u kick 4th and 8th
4 x 200 desc
3 x 50
3 x 100
3 x 150

The 3x pyramid is what I do when I can't decide what to do...

Thanks for the advice TC and Q. I usually make up my workouts while in the pool.

Here's a request to the fishies on this thread. I've got 3 more swims planned before I head down to St. Anthony's. Since you already know my paces, feel free to design a workout for me and I will do it.

By the way, I joined the US Masters. Now, I just need to finally register for a local Masters program. I'll look into it when I get back from St. Pete.
