Another muscle cramp question...
Another sufferer of leg cramps here, usually towards the end of the bike during a 70.3 and on the run.
I've pretty much accepted that it is due to fitness....I've never had any luck with nutrition changes, salt pills, etc in terms of preventing the cramps.
I also tend to agree with the idea that if the cramping were in fact due to nutrition/electrolytes, that I'd be cramping all over, not just legs.
My question is....
When my legs cramp, it is always the same muscles in both legs at the exact same time. For me it is usually the inside of the quads (around the sartorius/gracilis area). The thing I find odd is that, again, both legs, exact same muscles, same time. If the cramps are due to lack of fitness, how are they managing to cramp at the exact same time both legs? Geez, I don't think my pedal stroke is -that- even per side... :) Just find it odd...

I have the same issue and it almost ruined my IMTX race. Same scenario, mile 80 like somebody threw a switch. Full quad lockup both legs. Then manifested into the run. I believe my nutrition was off and I did not get enough salt in early enough. I also find the Bananas (potassium) with salt has reduced the occurrence in the past. I will try Base products next on some hot long rides to see how it works because it has what looks to be the right combinations.

I am going to also have a bike fit Friday to make sure my seat position is not a factor - currently I think it may be too high. Also will focus on hip and lower back flexibility to make sure I keep my knees in the same plane as the rotation. So for me it may be a combination of hip flexors causing pelvic issues, with knees pointed out with a seat too high? Eventually the mussels will just refuse to fire with that combination.

Thanks. I didn't want to say anything, but pickle juice is about the only thing I've tried that -seemed- to help. No joke. I'm still not a firm believer, but I'll be taking some along for my longer races.
