Good recap based on the limited memory I have. Sorry I won't be joining this year. I was planning a year of "no long stuff," and then unknowingly got into the original Zofingen. I decided to take the bait, so I'm taking a Switzerland vacation in September and will report back which course is harder.

I'm sad to miss this weekend, but hope everyone has an awful (epic) day!

Good luck w/ that!

PS - how does one "unknowingly" get into a race like that?

I was planning a year of "no sex stuff" (which is easy as a married guy), but then I unknowingly got into Kate Upton.

is there a who's registered list, I should check if I'm actually on it as I did a transfer. Would really be mad to show up and not be on the list, then I have to hunt down the guy, break a toe or two, you get the point.

Hmm two hour drive in the morning or at night?

I'd imagine 'the guy' currently outweighs you by a stone or 2.
And he wears a skirt.

Ditto.

I can swear it was just yesterday my commuter ferry was stuck in the frozen Hudson. Guess we're skipping Spring this year. Damn.
At lest the beer will taste better!

Re : Will there be markings/signs on the turns?

In my experience, only some of them. I strongly urge you to drive the course before hand and check out the road quality which, when I drove/rode it a month ago, was dodgy for a bit on forgot-the-name-of-the-road. In 2013 I was politely bitched out for being confused about a turn in the fog, with the volunteer reminding me "it's your responsibility to know the course".

To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.

unless is warm too...

The entire event (IM) is like "death by 1000 cuts" and the best race is minimizing all those cuts and losing less blood than the other guy. - Dev

"Unknowingly," as in I did three du's last year that earned me USAT points (didn't know that). Those points qualify people to get into the race (didn't know that either).

PS- glad your personal life is good. I had to "Google" Ms. Upton, and you're way out of your league. If she's spectating on Sunday I might have to drive down.

We had Des Ficker spectating for AmZof 1.0.

I remember coming into the pavilion and seeing this hottie blonde in a HVTC jacket, and thinking "man, I really need to join that club!"

Bait and switch.
She was there rooting on a friend, and borrowed somebody's jacket.
(Since it was 40 degs and pissing rain all day.)

Game on!

Weather seems to be shaping up to be pretty fast bike conditions.
Zoom-zoom!

Plus the threat of rain and T-storms to keep things interesting.

I'll take that every day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

That picture always fills me with excitement and dread....

An AmZof thread is never complete until there is talk of post ( or during ) race refreshments. I will bring some decent beer so the long course studs / poor bastards have something other than PBR to drink. Last year a Two Hearted Ale was sacrificed to the course gods, I will try not to repeat that unfortunate incident.

Don't you think photographers would know by now not to take a picture as soon as the gun goes off or as soon as people cross the finish line? Nobody wants a picture of themselves being Type A-hole triathletes as they start/stop their fancy watch.

Have a great race in Switzerland. AmZof is harder, but Powerman is grander.

Our race is merely a humble tribute to Powerman Zofingen.
