Age graded time trial results
I am organizing the local 20km Time Trial. I have a great excel spreadsheet that calculates age graded results. Using the standards in this calculator men's predicted times don't start to go up between ages 30-40, but each year over 40 there is a higher predicted time.

We have several juniors racing and I'm wondering how best to handicap the juniors relative to the masters athletes. The calculator I have only has age standards beginning at age 30. I would expect anyone 20-40 to be on an even playing field, but what do I do with the 15,16, 17 year olds who are racing. I was thinking of 5years worth of handicap for each year under 18. Using this logic 17yrs=45, 16=50, 15=55, 14=60.....does that sound reasonable?

Alternatively maybe there is a true source of age graded TT standards for juniors?

i have not heard of age-grading ITT results before. How do you assess a "standard" time when there is so much that is dependent on course and wind condition.

also, 14 year olds can't use time trial bikes whereas 60 year olds can. I think your whole approach to this is "misguided."

I should clarify that the event is a 20km cycling time trial.

Thanks for the links but I am looking for cycling standards.

Why can't 14 y/o's use TT bikes? Other than Economics making it unusual.

I too am interested in this. As a jr, is there actually a rule prohibiting my tt bike?

Misguided? It's not even a time trial. Race is against the clock, not time.

Case in point: in Nor Cal we currently have the 17-18 and 45-49 national TT champs. Good luck grading on that.

Thats pretty standard most federations to restrict equipment for youth/juniors.

You can't race tri on a TT bike in Canada as youth/junior. Race directors not complying can risk having their sanction pulled.
