Has or is anyone dealing with adrenal issues i.e. Adrenal insuffiency? Wondering what you have done or are doing? And yes, I am diagnosed and am working with an endocrinologist. Just training and racing have taken a nose dive! :-(.

I have not had specific adrenal issues, but I have taken a more proactive approach as I get older with my health and do monitor my blood work more closely by getting it done quarterly. I do get the cortisol checked but obviously one data point every quarter isn't going to tell me much in regards to adrenal issues but it has been normal. Regardless, I did start on some herbal remedies back in January that are supposed to help with adrenal health, specifically I am taking HPA Axis, but with anything it is hard to tell a difference, nothing is magic in life.

If you are curious, I publish my complete blood work. Here is my last one from July. Do you get a full blood workup with the endocrinologist or just specific biomarkers?

Last I had a big year of training and racing last year including and I just started felling tired leading into 70.3 worlds and fell apart at Kona. Doctors ran all the same tests and found nothing but my nutritionist tested my adrenals and found I was adrenal fatigued plus a few other minor things. She put me on Metagenics Adreno Tone herbal supplement and although I didn't have the draining fatigue I felt what had been normal again but once again it all fell apart at IM New Zealand and it all went downhill from there. I went to a specialist clinic who ran all the same tests again and found my adrenals were ok. Back to the nutritionist who suggested a stool test and found I had a parasite in my guts and on the cleanse now. The parasite puts a lot of stress on your adrenals and may have been why I went into adrenal fatigue to start with. Not sure if that helps but apart from rest, Adreno Tone and diet was all suggested to me.

I would be extremely cautious about using supplements such as "Adrenogen".

1. Let's be honest, Adrenal Fatigue issues are 90% Training , Lifestyle , Recovery , Diet related. Most people say "But I focus so hard and follow "X" training program and "Y" eating strategy. Well, either it's a bad strategy in general or a bad one for you. Supplements are attempting to band-aid a problem. The HPA axis really needs to investigated to figure out what there are issues.

(E.g. Exercising with depleted glycogen stores increases cortisol response to exercise compared to the same workload in a well-fed state. These increases in cortisol response can manifest into adrenal fatigue / over training if continued over time).

2. The first ingredient is Raw Adrenal Concentrate. (Typically ground up bovine adrenal glands). The issue here is that exogenous corticosteroid use decreases natural production. This puts you further in the hole. Just as Prednisone decreases natural Cortisol production and is extremely dangerous to cease cold-turkey.

3. Products like this are one of the most likely categories to have undisclosed steroid agents that will cause a failed drug test.
