Sorry, I agree. The for-purchase bags are not attractive either.

I agree. I like Chattanooga and evidently people are just dying to be there as we sure passed a lot of cemeteries on the ride (though I guess that's really Georgia).

Congrats to all you guys and gals that killed it out there today. I got the race I deserved and had my ass handed to me. That Lookout Mt climb finished me off pretty good before I even got started!

That's all I'll say about it cuz my fingers are cramping from typing.......

Oh yeah, I got passed by Laurent Jalabert early on the bike. It was mildly cool. That is all.

I liked the course and town more than I expected. I loved the Lookout climb and wished there were more climbing as the area has some really great rolling hills that are sure to have fantastic cycling roads.

Congrats to all the finishers today, it was not easy!

I cam into this race unprepared...man, was there a lot of climbing, both on the bike and run.

The descent from lookout mountain was a white-knuckler! it was fun, though!

Started off the run with bad cramps and had to suffer through a half marathon of quads and hamstrings that wanted to do nothing other than lock up.

Glad to have raced this course, though. It was a great experience. Seeing all the different nationalities/countries racing/supporting was particularly awesome.

Congrats to everyone who qualified and raced that tough course. I am always humbled by the talent up and down the age groups at this race. I showed up for the finisher's shirt and happily claimed it. I under swam, under biked and under ran the race.

Funny story. My wife finally joined me on this trip as she has never watched me at any of my previous IM events (watching people suffer is not her thing). She dutifully went to the finish line as the tracker said I was nearing completion. However, she still didn't see me cross the finish line as her attention was distracted by the phalanx of Bahraini security personnel passing behind her just as I came down the finishing chute. Oh well.

Thanks to all the volunteers and staff who helped pull off this event.

(replying to you only b/c you're last)

Great course, great venue, great city. That's just a perfect spot for a race, transition, etc. That awesome 3 mile descent (almost) made the climb worth it. I had a blast. I can't believe some of the bitching on here - the backpacks, the fact that they didn't completely close 56 miles of roads, etc.

I noticed Laurent Jalabert (Jaja!) is still at it, took 11th in my AG.

Everything was great with one exception, passing 18 wheelers and farm machinery on the bike course. This is my fourth 70.3wc, and the first time I have had to deal with traffic on the bike course. I think that at this caliber of race the roads should be closed to traffic, if that can not be accomplished at a particular venue then the venue should not be chosen. Safety should always be paramount IMHO.

+1. Incredibly welcoming community. Also, a great mixed course making it less biased to any given strength (climber vs flat course specialist). Really an amazing experience to participate.

Im glad most of you enjoyed the event overall. There are always a ton of things I would like to improve on but I think overall it was a great weekend. Thankfully the weather gods helped us out! Im proud of the community and they way they showed their support. Hope to see some of you back in Chattanooga for one of our other races or just to enjoy this amazing community. Be safe out there. The way you carried yourself and ran this race was very impressive.
Well done to both you, you're entire staff and the states of TN, and GA.
Hearing about everything that goes into an event like this gives me a huge appreciation of what you and your team have done.
1st time in Chattanooga and certainly will not be my last.
Many thanks!

I had boat loads of fun all weekend. It was a great race and even better course. Tough and challenging.

Is there anyway to see if someone got a penalty on the bike? Been looking at results and trying to figure out if a few people got penalties or just blew up.

Had a blast. Perfect weekend. Enjoyed the course a lot. Weather really helped too :) Volunteers and race staff were A1.

Only thing I would change for the future is to make sure that there are enough CO2 cartridges on stock. A lot of athletes on a lot of planes mean a lot of sales because those are forbidden on planes. It wasn't much of an issue for me as a nice lady gave me her cartridges after her race, but still, that's one thing you might want to make sure is in stock.

I did notice two or three draft packs passing me during bike, but otherwise spacing during bike was great. Sometimes even felt like I was alone on the course hehe.

I appreciate everything you did. I did the full there in 2016, but for many it was their first time in Chattanooga. I heard numerous people talk about how they now want to come back for the full, given how well they liked the city, venue, course, etc.

Thought it was lame that the Trek store wasn't allowing returns on the CO2 cartridges. I ended up having to drive home due to flight being cancelled, so I was able to take the 2 I purchased with me.

The entire community of Chattanooga was very welcoming and aware that the race was going on. I've been to so many other venues where the locals were completely uninformed of what was happening. Hats off to the RD and the City for promoting it and businesses offering deals to racers.

I get where you are at on the CO2, but it would be unfair to take them all back just because you didn't use them. If you own a business, you know how much the man hours for sales and returns doesn't make sense on that product (since there is no profit in it anyway) and its even far worse when you add in credit card processing fees.

Maybe the best business would be for Tribike Transport to do CO2 rentals where you only pay a dollar to rent for a day. Even then it would be a money loser in effort, but could build some good will/business exposure.

Walmart didn't let me return the 8 bottles of water of the 12 I bought that I didn't drink, nor the 6 bagels I didn't eat. What is it about the south? I'll never do another race there again.

Everyone I was down there with this past weekend said that after seeing how amazing the city is and how welcoming the community is, that they would want to come back for either (or both) of the "regular" races. Really well done. I had a blast and I loved the town/venue. I am thinking the full next year might be on my list.

I was in the last wave to go off on Saturday so by the time I was on the bike course, the weekend warriors were out in full force. It was very surprising and frustrating dealing with cars on the course after 22 miles or so. I got stuck behind a few where I couldn't pass and would have been riding faster w/o the cars. I got super frustrated and eventually passed another couple cars a few miles later. It wasn't safe or smart to pass them....... but in the heat of the moment my good decision making went out the window.....

Aside from the cars on the course it was a fantastic race and I enjoyed the overall experience so much. The swim was interesting as the current did pick up after 9am (my wave went off a good 90 minutes after the start of the race). I did love the 3.5 mile climb. Very pretty out there. The run was excellent and I enjoyed the views from the bridges. My husband was out on both bridges taking photos and it was great to see him as well as my own coach. And meeting so many awesome, inspiring people from all over the world was pretty cool. It was a blast! Chattanooga folks were super friendly. Huge thanks to the volunteers and everyone who made race day possible. It really was epic!

But please keep the bike course closed to traffic. I wasn't expecting to be blocked by cars and it was the first time I've seen cars on an M dot race course. I'm big on safety so that would be an opportunity for improvement.

I have never done a race where the bike was entirely closed to traffic. It would awesome if it was. I got ran off the road at 70.3 Worlds in Vegas.

And no, the Kona course is not entirely closed. People will tell you it is, but it is not.

I should have been more clear. I've never had cars in the same lane and direction as myself in an Ironman or Ironman 70.3. The opposite lane opened for traffic is very common. I just did IMLP and remember cars coming in the opposite direction in various places which was not a problem. But when they are in the same lane, blocking you, distracting you and slowing you down.....well that was a first for me.
