2011 Cervelo P4 Question - Cable Rub in BB Area Normal?
Upon inspecting my 2011 Cervelo P4 EVO underneath the brake stiffener / fairing / cover, I notice that both the front derailleur and rear derailleur cables rub the frame a bit underneath the BB, bare. Is this normal? Everything is routed properly through the cable guide and shifting properly, I'm just not sure if this is going to wear on the frame. Any information would very helpful!

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Yep, that's normal and won't be a problem.

Enjoy your P4, still one of the fastest bikes in the world.

My S2 did this a bit, cable sleeve made it better.

Hi realAlbertan,

Exactly right, a cable sleeve lines the exit hole just before the FD anchor bolt. It's optional but helps reduce friction.

In addition to that, the P4's down tube curves a tiny bit into the BB cable path, which is what Matt is seeing.

Quick question. Will the old P3 AL post fit an S2? I recall all those posts as similar?

Yes and no.
  • The S2 you're talking about has to be before the "new" one (introduced this year).
  • The carbon post, from the aluminum P3, will fit no problem. Leave the brass shim in the alu P3. You don't need it in the carbon S2.
  • The aluminum post from the aluminum P3 needs modification. The trailing edge is sharp - too big to fit in the carbon S2, so file off about a millimeter or so, just so it fits in the S2. You only have to file the part you'll put in the frame.
