"Death and Cardiac Arrest in Triathlon" in Annals of Internal Medicine

EDIT: See previous thread here:

My mom is an internist (and a 65-year-old triathlete!). She sent me the below article from Annals of Internal Medicine. Of note (and perhaps not new knowledge) is that risk seems to be higher in males and increases with age. Most of the deaths (67%) occurred during the swim and a plurality of cases (44%) showed signs of cardiovascular abnormalities.

Sorry for the repost, can you point me to them? I tried searching for "cardiac" and "death" but didn't see this article mentioned.

But that's a different study coming out of a different institution.

I did find this one though, which appears to discuss the article I posted. I had thought this study was published only 6 days ago but I guess the results were made available earlier.

I'd argue there enough difference in the article in the OP to warrant its own thread.

This one seems to be mostly about athlete safety. It's merely compiling a list of deaths with some associated statistics. It attempts no conclusion beyond, "These are the people who died during triathlons, and here's a bit of information about them." It deals almost purely in fact rather than trying to reach conclusions about the cost-benefit balance in exercise.
