Question for YaHey and the Libs....
Quote

Hey YaHey....serious question here. I know socially where you stand -
But today in Illinois the big news on WGN and WLS radio (both AM) was using drones to monitor speeders on the tollways. While this would have an impact of course on Ohare and Midway - the bigger question is the intrusion into lives. Do they ticket a car or do they ticket a driver? I would assume that the DRIVER gets the ticket.
For instance, I got a speeding ticket in the mail from New York. It said that an airplane got my car speeding and a camera at a toll got my plate. I called Chris Gleason who at the time was living, and living in New York - and a lawyer. He said not only to not pay the ticket - but to never pay the ticket. For all they knew I had a circus of midgets in the car and Bongo the Caribbean Zulu pygmy midget was at the wheel. So, as he said - I have never paid the fine.
Seems that the liberals have the mentality that "If you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about". One of the callers to the radio said that she liked to nude sunbathe in her back yard that was fenced...and had a tale about a hot air balloon going over. If however a drone camera got her naked outside - and that IS against the law...do we go after her too?
Or, as a liberal - what are your views on robotic enforcement of the laws of the land as they currently exist?

I seem to remember this being the mantra of the "non-liberals" when stuff like the Patriot Act was being foisted on us not so long ago.
BTW and totally unrelated - have you seen the thread in your honour over in the Classifieds forum?

What does being liberal have anything to do with this? I'm a flaming liberal and think this is a massive intrusion on my privacy and like you said, there is no way to guarentee it is me driving. I feel the same way about cameras at intersections.
I know I'm not doing anything illegal but that doesn't mean I'm ok with this. I honestly can't think of one of my friends who would think this is OK.

I dont know, that is why I am asking. Both WGN and WLS tried to skew it to a liberal thing - and it sorta made no sense to me. I think that is an American thing that crosses the boundaries. They both tried to blame Obama and Quinn -

I agree - just more media skew. I was thinking that in my car - how do they blame Obama and Quinn for the thoughts of "us" and the intent of drones?
They are with out a doubt getting as bad as MSNBC on trying to convince and contort than just report the news.

x2. R10C, I think you have your political parties backwards on this. "Liberals" would be up in arms about the intrusion of privacy and big brother watching over them.
I recently read a story that a county in TN bought a type of technology that scans for license plates. But this isn't the type that you put on top of police cars. Instead, you can install them at intersections and they scan everyone. It was scary to hear the LEO defend the technology.

I agree - that is why I was asking. Both of the major Chicago AM news talk stations were painting it to be the other way around. I remember Patriot Act well - and was not a fan in the least. I can only imagine that the skew is only going to get worse heading into November.

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry....jeesh....but I heard it in the media...and knew it just HAD to be true.
I am curious what the intent of blaming Obama and Quinn for the non-existent drone program that is at this point not more than an idea - let alone a purchase order for aircraft that "who" are going to control? Both stations got a ton of callers who were all irate - I guess that is the goal.
I do however blame Obama for everything and wish him nothing but the worst.

I trust Chris on this one. From what I understand the whole system in NY was being fought in the NYSC and was due to be over turned. To that, it was about four or five years ago - I have never heard a thing from NY. I have also since driven in NY and did even get pulled over - for speeding (in person by an officer)...and got a ticket (that I paid).

The way that states have got around this apparent "innocent until proven guilty" dilemma is by making drivers agree to be responsible for tickets
based on their car
(e.g. red light cameras) rather than on the driver as a condition of registering their car and/or getting their driver's license. Remember, it's a privilege, not a constitutional right to drive on public roads...

None of that changes the fact that you got some REALLY bad legal advice. "Just ignore it." Really? Smart. I say that as a former prosecutor.

Jen - honestly, if you listen to Rush as entertainment - he is pretty good. He does make some good points. He does have his skew. Anyone can take anyone and take a clip or quip (ST newbies love to do that to me) and make it seem like anything. You need to listen to Rush like you watch Survivor...if you miss an episode you get lost. Granted, I can only take so much of him - but, by and large he does make some pretty valid points (and he like I - tend to go WAY to one side or the other just for effect).
Now, MSNBC simply makes shit up - as was proven over and over.
I did feel bad for Rush with some of the things claiming he was sexist or racist...when you listened to a full hour in context, I can not recall a single time that he went out of bounds - when you take 60 seconds....he sounds ape shit batty. Bill Mar (how ever you spell his name)....that guy is fucking loon bird with syphilis mad.

You rent a car, get a ticket, they mail it to you and - according to the contract that you signed - you are responsible for it... I've said it for a long time: BIG opportunity for increasing revenues = moving violations. And I don't feel sorry in the slightest for anyone caught, by any means...
You own the car, you're responsible for it. If you lend it to a speeding, red light-running (midget) friend, then pass the ticket on to him when you get it...

No. In the same way that I don't blame Ford, Toyota or Ferrari for the moving violations.
But, if you bought the gun, and you lent it to a friend who then uses it for something dumb and illegal like a bank robbery, then I think you should be on the hook...
If you're a responsible gun owner that has his firearm stolen, then not responsible. Just as someone who has their car jacked and used in a crime isn't responsible for it...not an exact science, but hey...lol
I'm a big believer in the right to privacy...but I view driving and car ownership as a priviledge, not a right...

Well obviously using drones is Un Constitutional. It violates your right to face your accuser completely. I wouldn't pay a ticket of this nature on these grounds, unless of course the drone can come to court and testify that it in fact saw and recorded me speeding. For all I know the judge was joy riding in my car or I lent to a friend.
The thing you and everyone else needs to realize is that these are not laws but taxes. Speeding isn't a law, it's a tax. In most states driving at a speed greater than reasonable and prudent is a law. Now if the cop that chased you down to write you that citation was doing 20 more mph than you were, who was really driving unprudently? I've used this when the cop actually shows up in court.
The real problem is that the state is a business. And the state is completely and totally financially bankrupt, and morally bankrupt too boot. This is the only way drones or cameras can be allowed to be entered as proof of criminal activity. If everyone would just stop sending a check in the mail for taxes in the guise of fines that violate our rights, maybe we could reform the system. Until then, fuck all your liberal idiot morons that think any of this is a good idea. Fuck you with all 1200 pages of your Socialist healthcare law for starters.
