Maybe it comes from having been a gymnast, and having some perspective on how tiny and young these girls really are, but I don't get it. Some guy I work with was excited for the gymnastics to start, because he wanted to see the "hot flexible chicks." I reminded him that most of them are barely past puberty, are short and thick, have hair plastered to their heads with half a spray can of hairspray, and have calloused hands that would rip your junk to shreds.

When I was much younger, I had a thing for domonique mochiano. (prob spelled wrong) the next olympics I was excited to see her and she was suddenly a tank. Then I realized how young she was first time around. I was young too though.

An Olympian, a gymnast, or both?

This...I was a teenager when she was in her first games and I had myself a little crush. My older sister was also a gymnast so it was guaranteed to be on tv. For me, now that I'm (much) older and it could probably be considered creepy watching these 14 year old girls bound around, I just appreciate the athleticism. I'll watch almost anything in the Olympics because I love seeing exceptionalism in almost anything.

Most of the women (girls, really) will suffer from delayed menstruation and then later-life osteoporosis and other bone and joint disorders due to dietary and caloric restrictions in order to stay that small and flexible. They're in high-impact events that are hell on those same bones and joints and they're regularly taking poundings that you don't see Marine infantrymen take in terms of physicality. Some end up with spinal columns similar to what you'd see in someone suffering traumatic injuries due to automobile or aircraft crashes. And a significant minority of them also develop bulemic or anorexic disorders. Psychologically, some of them turn into real messes, and at way too young ages.

I can remember watching the '72 Olympics when, outside of the Soviet bloc countries -- who even then were continually pushing the age boundaries for their female gymnasts -- women gymnasts were actually women: Physically mature and in their 20s. Today, a gymnast at the Olympic level in her 20s would be looked at as a senior citizen and would be treated as such by judges and officials.

You had me at junk ripping.

Seriously though I stick to post olympic 21 year old + gymnasts. Even better are the ones who flunked out early because the developed into a woman instead of looking 12 when they are 25.

Dude, I'm not even sure that's ambiguously gay. More like, full-on gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that! ;-)

Well, at risk of never being elected to public office as a result of this post (yeah, because this is the one that will keep me out) I'll tell you what I told my wife regarding age.

Guys have been screwing 15-16 year old girls for 1000s of years. In public we refrain from saying things like "oh, I'd totally bang that high school cheerleader," but it doesn't change the fact that there is a natural attraction to fully developed physically mature girls. In fact, Just 60 or 70 years ago it wasn't considered "creepy" at all, so we shouldn't pretend that normal adult men shouldn't think that a 15-16 year old girl is "hot."

Now with repsect to that I do think they should be off limits ethically as I think having "relations" with them is sexualy exploitative, and I think we shouldn't talk about them in a sexual manner as a matter of decency and respect.

Regarding everything else you wrote - I've never been unattracted to short women, and have always preferred an athletic build (not that I ended up with it......but the wife is still quite a gem). I do agree that the calluosed hands would be a bit of a turn off. I once dated a landscaper, and her man hands were kinda gross.

Also of note, some of the girls at the olympics look physically mature (i.e. two of the girls on the US team) and some of them look like little girls (most of the Russian team).

Having said all of that, if your coworker was in his late teens/early 20s, I wouldn't be so weirded out by his comment. If he's close to your age, yeah.....that's pretty creepy.

You have to be 16 years old to compete in the Olympics.

Game on.

I think guys are attracted to females in skimpy clothing.

If you look at that other thread about the greek tack star, a bunch of guys were saying, "Wow, she is hot." and so on.

But what if you placed her in long peasant dress and a sweater? And there is nothing wrong with her; she looks ok, I guess. But the guys wouldn't have been "drooling."

Rather than blame adult men who "drool" over teenage gymnasts, I question the coaches, organizers and participants themselves for the choice of clothing which reveals vaginal cleavage. Especially when they know the "drooling guys" exist.

It's exactly the same as a woman wearing a low cut top complaining that guys are always staring at her tits.

Was thinking about this yesterday while watching beach volleyball. Very athletic and skilled players but there's something going on here which exceeds sports. I mean how come we didn't get to watch the lady skeet shooter kick some serious tail yesterday??

Yeah, that lady actually made some sort of Olympic history or something. Dominant in her sport like few others, from what the limited press that she got is saying. But, man...those beach volleyball women. ;-)
