Drownings

There have been so many drownings this year in Ontario. All of them avoidable.

Holy shit people please wear your PFDs.

Yes, I know you can swim. We all know that people who know how to swim never drown...

Yeah, about a month ago multiple people drowned when they went down in rough water on a lake here in Maine. PFDs were in the boat. I think one of them didn't drown because he got his on once they were in the water, but the other 2 or 3 didn't make it.

Seems prudent to put them on when it gets bad enough your boat might be swamped.

I wear mine all the time. I realize I am in the minority. The vast minority.

It's not that hard to fall in unconscious for some reason.

I am a strong swimmer. I'm terrified of drowning. I always wear mine (also, it's easier to get buy in from the kids if everyone does it)

That's part of the reason I wear mine. My kid can't argue if I have mine on. Shirley we're all reasonable swimmers on here, swimming ability has nothing to do with wearing a PFD.

Must be because the Great Lakes are three feet higher this summer due to the rain.

I saw where at least 8 people died in a flash flood that hit a popular swimming hole in Arizona. There may be more missing.

Never been on a cruise ship and really never hope to be one one. But spent a lot of years deep sea fishing and always had a vest on.

I thought that was you. Walking near Brock st. & Dundas rd. in a big orange life preserver. Good on ya for putting safety first.

I live in a lake/summer vacation area, when somebody drowns, the paper always says "he was a good swimmer", I always tell my friend if I drown doing open water training, at least say "he was a good swimmer" in my obit.

To me wearing a life vest in normal boating conditions is like wearing a helmet while taking a bath. I suppose each could save your life some day, and each looks a bit silly. I make exceptions for kids and really bad weather (the life vests, not the bath tub).

Super freak athlete former track runner from my team drowned a few weeks ago while on vacation in Ohio. 18 years old. Candlelight memorial on what would have been his 19th birthday is Wednesday. Great kid.
