1st bike fitting NYC
Just wanted to write up a short review on my bike fitting at Sids in NYC west side.

I went there and dropped $150 for a fitting that lasted 15 mins if that. He did some measurements with my knee using a ruler and just saw me riding for a couple of minutes. Said i was athletic and that i had good form so nothing much needs to be changed. He moved my seat a bit and that was it.

I feel like i got ripped off since it only lasted 15 mins. My wife got hers at SBR and her's was 2.5 - 3 hours and it was only $100 since she got her bike there.

I know time isnt really a good judge if my fitting was done properly but is my so call "good form" really only worth 15 mins of riding? No laser or computers were used during this fitting. Only tool he used was a ruler L shaped ruler.

thanks

In my fits, I don't touch the rider for 15 minutes to let him warm up and settle into the position. Not saying anything against the fit or fitter, but 15 minutes seems less than thorough.

It's not about the tools, but it is about time, attention and expertise.
I don't see how 15 minutes of observation is worth $150.

My usual road fitting will take from 60-90 minutes. My usual triathlon fitting will take from 90-120 minutes for an existing bike fitting. If we are using the fit bike the times are a lot longer. Your fitting lasted as long as the usual warm up and question time I use.

$10- a minute is a bit steep for fitting, but I must say I am jealous. In no way should you have paid $150- for 15 minutes of fitting. Occasionally I (like 1 in every 300) I get an athlete that after the initial assessment there really is nothing to work on at that time. In that case I either do not charge or prorate the time and give them my blessing. Heck, just filling out the forms takes 15 minutes.

Did you go back and mention that it does not feel right? Many fitters, not all, offer money back if not satisfied.
Sounds like you do not want to go back but you may need to stand up and face him/her again. Just a thought.
You can always print this article and bring with you.
