computer help - capture printer data
Ok, I know this is not exactly the right forum but I figure someone here can point me in the right direction.

I have an Avaya phone switch that prints all calls to a line printer. I would like to capture this data on a computer instead of printing it. I have tried several com port capture programs with no luck.

Buying a packaged solution (>$500) is out of the picture.

Any suggestions or less expensive solutions?

Andy

Couldn't you just connect the switch output to COM1 of a pc, open Hyper Terminal, connect it to COM1, then select "Capture Text" under the transfer menu?

I don't think I have the settings correct, such as flow control, baud rate. Using hyper terminal or wrq reflection just locks up my machine when the cable is connected.

I will try googling the settings more.

Thanks,
Andy

Hi,

I'd think your switch manual would tell you what the settings were, or, possibly the printer settings would indicate them as well (since it's printing now). I'd suggest 9600 8N1 for starters.
