Whale of a story

I just saw a picture of the 'rescue' of the whale in the Thames River. I wondered how much money was spent to do it? I also wondered how many homeless people could have been fed, perhaps at a lesser cost, by using the animal as meat?

Am I heartless? Am I just too damn practical?

They had to get rid of it somehow. If it had died there you would have 5 tons of rotting meat to deal with. Not exactly easy to dispose of, as these guys discovered:
