Why not just make your profile private, then people have to request to see your profile and can't randomly "kudos" you?

After reading this thread, I anxiously checked my account hoping for some sexy profile pics. But sadly there were none. I did, however, get a Kudos on my afternoon run from "Jesus." So I have that goin' for me....which is nice.

I deleted Strava all together. It's just too much hassle and there's no point having a post go up every time you do a work out. Not really relevant but it might be worth getting rid of Strava all together if too much of this stuff goes on. It really is pointless if you have even the most basic version of training peaks

I have maybe half a dozen rides & runs combined on Strava, the last one was back in the fall. over the last couple of months I've had 3 or 4 random kudos or likes or whatever they are called on these old rides. It's a little weird, and doesn't really make me want to use that service.

I personally love Strava and checking myself out in segments. I don't know if Training Peaks has a good segment list. Being that it's the second day in spring and we're preparing for our 4th Noreaster in 3 weeks I'll hold off on deleting Strava, or even opening it for that matter. Give them a few weeks to work it out. If so I guess Stormy Daniels will have to Kudo someone else.

I still lapped everyone on the couch!

Does the most basic version of training peaks give you kudos for your workouts by sending a topless picture of a pretty girl with a great rack who can apparently run 10 miles at a 3:09 min/mile pace (according to the one workout she logged)? I mean, I'm just not sure I consider this latest development a bug.

This is the exact reason I don't sign up for "group rides". According to the email, it means something different than what I thought it meant.

I was feeling left out until I got a notification from Strava of new kudos on my lunch run today. Checked my strava and it appears that I have new kudos from someone I've never met (nor did I pass during my run, which was solo by the way) who can run 3 min miles! She's curious if I want love.

My response

Just had my first one yesterday as well. These are bots.

With 1M active users on Strava, this will likely be a thing going forward.. Make your profile private if it bugs you.

Those of you getting these things: Have you cranked up any of the security settings? I realize there aren't many but do you have it so that people have to ask to follow you or anything like that? Just curious.

I have enhanced privacy turned on for mine so people do have to ask to follow me. However, unless you specifically check another box, your results still appear in segments, leaderboards and fly-by. From what I gather this makes them "kudo-able" from non-followers although they can't comment or see your specific GPS track.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to go snipe some KOM's on some southwestbound segments ;)

The young miss Addisyn Boulder (quite appropriately named, judging by the profile photo, which I'm sure is completely legit) who Kudoed me today doesn't run much, but when she does, she's hella-fast. Like 23.6 miles in 20 minutes.

With those glutes? Of course she's hella fast... Serious power there.

Plus the aerodynamic fairings, and I don't think she can run any slower than 69 miles per hour ;-)

I've gotten a couple over the last week.

One fallout from the heat map debacle with the people overseas is that they apparently pulled the activity search function. Which absolutely blows.

I used it all the time to search race courses I'm planning on doing that people may have uploaded to get a better look at it than some generic course maps provide.

Has anyone heard any updates on it coming back?

Nothing else seems as good as Strava was actually. There is some semblance of it on garminconnect, but it isn't good at all.

Does Trainingpeaks even have that capability?

I've received two of these, but it appears Strava is already on the ball and removed them pretty quickly.

I just really wish the title for this thread was something like "Russian sex bots"

Well, I recently did that. Still got a sexbot kudo today. The bot has no club memberships, so there's no common affiliation. Wasn't sure how the bot got to my workout, then I found this probable explanation on reddit:

The address for any activity is just a simple number allocated sequentially (BTW your athlete number is also sequentially allocated). I checked my last activity (which got a spam kudos) and by incrementing the activity number in the web address I could step through other peoples activities on the same day (who mostly seem to have got a spam kudo as well).
There's no security to your activities unless you make them private.
The spammers probably just made a simple bot that steps through activity numbers and gives out kudos.

So the only way to avoid it is to not only make your profile private, but all your workouts, too. That kinda defeats the whole purpose of Strava. There are a multitude of other tools for logging and analyzing workouts. Strava's differentiator is the social aspect, leveraged by the high adoption rate. They better get a handle on this situation, before folks start defecting.

Bumble and Tinder are a waste—I will find love on Strava.

Had my first nudie-kudos this morning.

I get these pretty regularly. I typically click that person’s profile to enjoy the picture for a moment then move on. I’m just not sure what they (might) get out of doing this that makes it worth doing?

The pic that's in the "photos" section is hosted outside of Strava. If you should click on it, at a bare minimum, you're getting a cookie that allows some entity to track you for retargeting advertising across the web. I wouldn't be surprised if there was something more malicious on the hosting website.
