Do not put in your contacts after eating jalapeños.

You’d think that wouldn’t need to be said, but yes, it does.

And don't diddle your tingly area (or have it diddled) if you're a female.

As far as the eye thing goes, I'm always surprised by how quickly the burning goes away.

Please tell me how quickly. My eye is on fire.

For me, it always goes away quickly, maybe a minute at most. Not really much different than eating a jalapeno.

Mrs sphere imposed a 24h moratorium after a post-chili making incident a few years back.

Habaneros, not jalapenos. Ouch.

If you're cooking with them or making salsa that usually involves touching them at some point.

Also, don't handle jalapenos and then go pee (if you're a guy) or otherwise handle your junk. Whooooo boy!

Wash your eyes out with milk if you have some handy. Helps with the burn.

At least that’s what I remember with my eyes burning from the pool.

I had a bunch of cayenne peppers left over last year. So I dried them and crushed them. The dust from that was killer. I washed my hands immediately. Next morning I put my contacts in and my eyes were on fire. Usually goes away within a few minutes. But you'll do it again in a half hour when you scratch an itch.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

I was eating a piece of a sub I had left over from last night. A piece fell out so I grabbed it. I did wash my hands after I finished, but must have had some residual left over.

Thankfully the eye feels better. Still a bit blood shot, but not burning.

Same here. j2k2mom was burnin’ hot, but not in a good way. At least the homemade roasted habanero salsa was good...
