Try losing your Environmental Control System at 25k feet.

The pilot and EWO damn sure earned their flight pay that day.

I assume they continued to their initial destination (China Lake), which begs the question, why not land somewhere immediately? Certainly there had to be a muni airport somewhere along the way they could have landed.

They returned and landed back at Whidbey. I lived on the base at China Lake for 15 yrs. I’ve seen many ways to try not to be at China Lake but this is the most extreme! ; )

Or at least an emergency descent to get them down where it's warm enough to avoid the frostbite
