I do not hold much knowledge in the area but I think that yes, mind can play a very big role. I also think that with strong/crazy enough mind, persons doing long distance race of any kind and ignoring body signals can simply run themselves into the ground to the point that they will just simply die.

So if you can perform 12% better I see a whole new market for smart cycling glasses. Especially in the pro peloton during a TT!
