PayPal sent to wrong address--what can I do?
I just bought a frame here on the classifieds.

It was $200. I sent $200 to the seller via friends and family.

Trouble is I left out a letter on the email address. It went to the wrong person.

I emailed the recipient and explained the mistake.

Am I out $200?

I'm an idiot.

Does PayPal show that the payment went to an actual person with that wrong email address?

Yes.

I emailed the incorrect person.

Not sure what I would do if I got a random email from a stranger asking to return money that I had just got electronically.

It was a good deal at $200. I may end up overpaying by $200.

Stupid cut and paste left off 1 letter in the email.

I absolutely positively would NOT respond to an individual who anonymously sent ent me $200.

In my files at work is a check for
$3,000 sent anonymously. I assumed it was a scam and reported it to the Nevada Attorney General.

If the recipient is smart, they would assume nefarious intent. You, on the other hand, should assume “lesson learned “ and let it go.

Did you / can’t you email PayPal for help? As Sally said I would probably not respond out of concern of some kind of scam.

"I think I've cracked the code. double letters are cheaters except for perfect squares (a, d, i, p and y). So Leddy isn't a cheater... "

I contacted paypal.

I reached out to the party to received the money, they reach out as well--to let them know it's not a scam. Otherwise I wait 48 hrs and contact my bank.

I suspect I could be out $200--but we will see.

I always use F/F here on ST. I should maybe do regular payment and cover the fee.

The transfer is going to be done in less than a day and it is not reversible.

I sent a payment to the wrong address once. It was the recipients fault, not mine. He accidentally gave me the wrong address. He noticed 2 hours later so I cancelled that payment.

The payment was in fact cancelled successfully. Don't remember any details besides that

Therein lies the problem with friends and family paypal, all the protection goes out the window. If a seller insists on F&F I always add 3% and send as goods.

one reason why I prefer the person getting the money to do a "request"

Follow up: last night received refund of $200. I’m going to either ask a request for funds or pay the 3%.

My faith in humanity is restored.

Thanks all!!
