Go for a run, rub one out. Or both!

Both excellent stress relievers.

I meditate. In fact, when anxious or stressed, I focus my attention on the emotion or feeling itself. Where is the feeling? In the gut? What's it like? Do I feel it anywhere else, like shortness of breath or increased heart rate? I then pay attention to what that feels like. Rather than pushing it away, I accept it. But by doing that, I also realize that it's just bodily reaction to thoughts that I probably don't have much control over, and that puts some distance to it. It usually dissipates quickly.

I'm not always that good at this. Often I completely forget until I've been stressing about something for some time. But once I remember, I can deal with it quickly.

I'm trying to get better, because it takes practice. I've been meditating about 20 to 30 minutes a day for about the last six months, and I look at it as training the mind to be present, similar to whatever training you'd do for a physical activity.

But not at the same time as it will open up a new set of problems. Or so I've been told by a friend. Definitely don't rub one out while riding the bike - even if you're on a stationary trainer.
