Recommend me a spin bike
This is mainly for the Mrs. She wants to start doing spin classes at home. The Peloton is ~$2K. I'm betting we can do it for a lot less, but don't want to get something that feels cheap or will break down.

Not interested in a trainer. Already got one.

Thanks!

Peloton, I’m very familiar with all the spin®️ And non spin bikes. Expensive but by far best bang for your buck

I have 3 friends who did the Peleton leap. All have become very strong riders from basically nothing. Don’t undervalue the power of the Peleton ecosystem. It seems to be pretty awesome.

Depends entirely upon your budget. If you can drop $2,000 on a Peloton, go for it. I can't (and wouldn't even if I could), so I bought one of these on sale for $200 (model SF-B901). I threw on some Vector pedals and hooked up to Zwift and am entirely satisfied. The only limitation I've encountered is that the handlebars aren't length-adjustable such that longer torsos in a TT setup will feel cramped. The obvious solution (which is what I did) is to clip on some aerobars. For context, I ride it about 4 hours per week and have had it for 9 months. It's required lubing of the felt pads, that's it.

Gyms regularly refresh their spin bikes and sell the floor models for a pittance. My friend bought a used Schwinn for ~ $50. Put a fresh saddle on and a pair of pedals of her choice and that could be a good base - then add a virtual training program for fun/social.

So the Schwinn is ribbed?

I think that's all she needs to know

I just finished re-reading that book. It is so great. It captures the essence of suffering.

Bought my wife a Keiser M3i. Supposedly a superior bike to the Peloton, but also able to access the program.
