Kickr fail after firmware update
Decided to update my Kickr firmware today. Mistake

It appeared to download the update. Then it gave a failure message (the app), said "retrying" repeatedly. Now the app can't connect, Kickr is essentially frozen

I tried unplugging for 10 min. No change

Is there a way to force a reset?

As someone who's done firmware development, it's a cardinal sin not to have a way to reset your device after something like this

I don't want to ride my old trainer!

Did you turn bluetooth off on your phone while the Kickr was unplugged, and then turn bluetooth back on after the Kickr was plugged back in? If not, try that and see if your phone will recognize the Kickr

ok, I just tried that. Now it will recognize the Kickr (thanks!)

But ... then when I do the spindown it comes up with an offset of 32000 and the Kickr still has the 'brake' on.

Ugh. At this point, I think your only option is to call Wahoo support. The power off Bluetooth on the phone is the only trick I know.

Good luck

fingers crossed, I think it's fixed:

- unplugged Kickr
- turned off Bluetooth on iPad (what I'd been using to control and do spindown)
- put latest Wahoo app on phone
- plugged in Kickr, turn on BT on phone
- needed to do the Advanced Spindown -- just doing the regular spindown left the brake on still

... seems to be working now, but will test with a real ride later (0 degrees F outside, lovely)

3 hr ride, worked fine!

I notice now that it more closely tracks my PM's power. Also now I see that you can make the Kickr use your PM's power to control in Erg mode (yes, my firmware was that old)

... and that it more gradually changes the resistance going to/from erg mode.

Thanks again, don't think I would have solved it without your suggestion.

Now I have selected not to use power meter control within PerfPro because it is so close and everything seems to be running a bit smoother than the first year or so. Since PerPro keeps track of the Kickr and power meter data I see the comparison for ride summary and it is about as close as it can get. I couldn't be happier with this Gen 1 at the moment.

Glad you got your trainer to work.

thanks. Yeah, during the course of the ride I tried both ways: using the PM power to control, and using the power coming from the Kickr.

I came to the same conclusion -- it was close enough not to matter.
