Lots of problems with porch pirates around here. Yesterday I left a Christmas card with tip money taped to the garbage can and it was stolen before the garbage man got it.

I saw this on some show earlier this week and laughed. It is a brilliant idea but can be bad for the homeowner if the thief runs away and gets injured. Stupid.

Had some bad experiences with first marriage and also have a freeloading family member. I know a thing or two cuz I've seen a thing or two!

Is the freeloading family member your current wife?

How does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?

no wife earns her keep:), she's hot, a great mom and makes more money than me.

My sister is the black sheep of the family, always in trouble, can't keep a job, her problems are always caused by someone other than her. My mom has a second home, sister went to visit and stayed for 5 years without paying rent. She got pissed when my mom finally got the balls to tell her to get the hell out.

No gates on our street but some good community members who look out for each other. We'd been living there a couple of months when the in-laws came over while we were away (my wife had left them a key, we knew about it). A guy I know from 5 houses down saw my father-in-law heading through the side gate into our garden, clocked that our car wasn't there, called me and didn't get an answer, so got his baseball bat, collected the guy from next door as back-up and went round to check everything was OK.

Never had an issue with porch pirates!

What caused the reaction

That car looked to be in good shape, not like driving a banger. F$$KING thieves. All shapes and sizes.

Two 12 guage shot shells (blanks) that go off when you lift the package. Kinda loud.

Could have been a hired driver.

Ahhhh, yes, the crazy family members. I suppose I built a bit of a gated community myself in that respect. It's just that my "gate" is a 90 minute drive, which I know they're too lazy to make. If they breach that anytime, I'll have to go with the fortress and moat.

Our secretary's daughter has a camera on her porch. Local courier driver dropped off the box, half hour later somebody came and stole it. It was the delivery driver. His elaborate costume consisted of changing his shirt.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

That's what I don't get, do these idiot-ass porch pirates not know what a doorbell camera or external security camera look like?

Most of them assume that they're anonymous enough that the police will have trouble finding them or be too overwhelmed to deal with smaller thefts.

One night or two in jail and the costs of making bail, hiring a lawyer, or having to depend on public defender, and then going through the legal process will be a good lesson for these folks.
