Cozumel sell out?

Does Cozumel sell out? and if so how quickly?

Thinking about making this my first ironman in 2018 or 2019.

I donÂ’t think it comes remotely close to selling out. Looks like 1200 started the race.

looks like the perfect race if you're a crap swimmer.

I do IMCoz as my first. I loved it and would like to do it again. However,

- it stinks they moved it from Thanksgiving weekend
- it is a long and relatively expensive haul to get there
- the downstream swim makes a mockery of the IM distance

On the other hand,

- locals embrace the race with a great atmosphere
- good deals to be found on hotels
- pulls a good international field

I hear you on the swim, my wife still bitches about it being changed from the loop from Chakaanaab(sp). She is a STRONG swimmer and it took her 1:25, that was near FOP for AG females.

It really was a great mini vacation during Thanksgiving week, since the wife was racing, I had to do double duty on the all inclusive though.

Wow, I was quite surprised to see the stats pretty much in line with Chattanooga this year. List of these fast swim races seem to be growing...

Imagine the AG bitching if people had to swim north in that current this year. The DNF rate would have been huge.

I would have preferred the Chankanaab swim (only did the race last year) but to be honest I am not sure 50% of a typical AG field could swim a mile against a current that produces a 39 minute swim? Would certainly be a great test for great swimmers, and make it on the level of an epic race potentially. Add a high wind and hot day? oofa

BTW prior years at the point to point format appear to have been a bit faster than typical IM swims, but not insanely so like this year

Yea, one would think. I'm a 1:20 - 1:30 IM swimmer. I signed up for last year 2016, I thought this race would be fast for me. But I started at the back, had an in-the-face current almost the entire time. I could see the buoy anchors at forty five degrees into me. At certain spots I could see the same rock outcropping below me for what seemed forever. Granted I'm not a strong swimmer, but 1:50 took a lot of effort. And I spoke with many other 'crap' swimmers and we all experienced the same currents. Thing is two days prior I was snorkeling with the wife at the exact same area with the current going down-course. So much for bad timing.
