IM TX almost sold out
I was just surfing around and noticed the banner on the IM TX page says 'Less than 50', which I assume was meant to mean 'FEWER than 50 general registration slots are left'. Is this a surprise? I seem to remember stories from April 2017 about people registering the day before the race (maybe Rob Gray?). I have this race written on my calendar in invisible ink (kiddo number two coming in March), looks like it might be disappearing for real for me, I was counting on registering at the end of March.

I registered General Entry about 10 days before the race this past April. I guess the new marketing approach with the pricing tiers and the payment plan is working out for them. Looks like General Entry for 2018 will be gone before the end of this week.

I think it has more to do with the deferral and transfer options.

There was a lot of uncertainty about the bike course after 2016 (it was short by ~20 miles that year), which might explain why 2017 took a long while to fill up.

Edit: I corrected the dates as it was 2016 (not 2015) that was short.

The fact that I'm having a second kid? Yeah, I know, I'm pretty nervous too, but it's more excited/apprehensive than sad.

Wow. Whomever at ironman suggested the new pricing/tier system has a big smile on their face right about now.

Guess I'll look for another option for next year....

Ya, and quick check shows Santa rosa on tier 4, didnt sell out last year. Meanwhile Canada only on tier 2. I would have thought with Coeur Dalene gone it would be more popular.

No new course info for Whistler might have something to do with that.

I think the 2016 race's shorter course, two transitions, and downpour causing them to pause the race left people thinking twice about registering for 2017. When they got there stuff together for this year, plus moved it up to be a little cooler, it revived registration. Payment plan and other options might have helped too, but confidence that the race is back on track is likely the biggest factor.
