UK Gun Crime Rises by 27 Percent This Year, Firearms Amnesty Ensues

Look; "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" were only MOVIES, you Brits! ;-)

Eh, so the law-abiding people who are expected to turn in their guns are the ones responsible for gun crime? And the more guns they turn in, the less gun crime there'll be? Is this what they're saying over there? Ummmmm...

"The amnesty comes less than a month after national figures revealed the number of crimes involving firearms in England and Wales increased by 27% to 6,696 in the year ending June 2017.

Many firearms are "held in innocence and ignorance of their illegality" and are often left forgotten in people's homes, according to the National Ballistic Intelligence Service (Nabis), which is co-ordinating the surrender.

Others are acquired through criminal networks and handing them in could save lives, the service added."

"Others are acquired through criminal networks... " REALLY? You don't say!

Firearms amnesty as UK gun crime rises 27% this year

No but you missed the important bit! If the criminals turn them in it could save lives, so they should just do that and everything will be peachy.

Yeah, I'm sure Rory and Chris and the lads are just keen on turning in their guns, boyo. ;-)

This year Australia had a gun amnesty and 51,000 guns were handed in.

Support for strict gun control law is high in both the UK and Australia.

The chasm between UK/Australian and US views on gun control and its effectiveness is enormous.

Thank the Lord we're different from the people in those two countries. ;-)

That is something that we can agree on.

Perhaps when the US becomes civilised like the rest of the English speaking world we can have a sensible discussion on gun control. By civilised I mean play cricket, qualify for the world cup and spell correctly. :)

Yep, thank God for the NRA and the right to gun ownership.

There's a note at the bottom of the chart... Why do you think the maker of that chart decided to exclude Mexico?

It does say "the developed world" at the top. Mexico doesn't qualify.

It is a per capita based chart.
