Realtime aerodynamic measurement

A group of guys in the UK (including me!) are building a system to integrate direct-force aerodynamic drag measurement into your bike. We’re excited to kick this off, and Slowtwitch is an awesome forum to discuss aero issues, so I wanted to share with you and get your feedback.

While I don't know anything about your product, I will say that Garmin buying Alphamantis Technologies shows that this is the next big thing for cycling since the power meter.

Great to see some more options coming out in this space. How does this product differ from NotioKonect?

Is there a need for the large shape? As best I can tell from pictures, that looks a little awkward to mount on aerobars. Just the first concern I thought of. Love to see more products like this coming out!

Yeah, lots of interesting, and very cool, stuff going on in this space for sure!

We differ from NotioKonect, and the similar Newton and iBike bike computers, because they rely on a power meter and we're a direct-force measure. That means they use your power meter value and need to subtract energy losses from chain friction and rolling resistance, without actually being able to measure what they are.

Instead of doing that, we're isolating the athlete at the stem, seatpost, and pedals and directly measuring the drag force, exactly like a wind tunnel does.

That's the prototype, it's a little chunky right now :)

The design we have is meant to quickly go on and off bikes, and be super adjustable, so you can test multiple people quickly. In the long run it won't be any more noticeable than a power meter
