I vote for beater bike and wheel off smart trainer.

Get a cheap Powertap 2nd hand on eBay. Put the Powertap on your beater bike and use it on a dumb trainer.

also be aware of potential frame damage due to some stresses (when riding on trainer) don't exist on the road (so the frame is not intended to sustain it). Better to ask manufacturer before
