One of the vineyards we were going to go to burned. We couldn't see Alcatraz or the Golden Gate bridge yesterday because the smoke was so bad.

Head south to Santa Barbara. The view is much clearer there and you can also get your balls cupped AND massaged.

I've stayed at the Hilton in Santa Rosa that burned to the freakin' ground, and got engaged at Chateau St. Jean which apparently also saw a ton of damage. We've vacationed in Sonoma County maybe a dozen times - love the place.

Hope you all are safe out there.

So far the word on Chateau St. Jean is that some of the vineyards were damaged but the building itself is fine.

I'm following a local writer for Sonoma mag who's been updating areas/wineries all day.

My in-laws used to live behind Kenwood Winery so the area is special to me.

Just found out that close friend of mine from high school lost his home. His wife was out of state helping a friend move when she heard about it and called him at 1 AM to tell him to get out of the house. That may have saved their lives.

Cycling friends of mine lost their house today. Other longtime friends in Santa Rosa/Bennett Valley had to evacuate and are waiting to hear. Levi Leipheimer lost his old house (which just went into escrow) and things were getting dicey near his new house. Friends of friends up there have lost homes. Reports of looters from evacuated homes. Hope karma gets them.

It's crazy to think that power lines and swaying trees could be the catalysts for this much devastation being caused, sad sad time.

Out of the sadness of the wildfires comes a great dog survival story...
