Any good stories to share just yet? Personally I have been out on just a few day trips and have come nowhere near a white tail and sufficed to say an elk. Year two for me and a buddy and I are pretty much self taught so still figuring things out.
Most excitement we have had so far is tracking a rather large animal for a few hours in very thick woods. Got very close a few times (from the sounds of stomping/breaking limbs etc likely within 30 yards). Figured it was an elk then came upon some droppings...clearly a moose. Probably very lucky we did not get closer than 30 yards.
Second was working our way through a ravine and we start noticing wolf crap and leftovers (fairly fresh) of porcupine. A little bit later we hear the wolf pack howling a few miles away. Keep going and the same pack starts howling about .5 miles away (semi educated guess). 1 second later we come to the conclusion that we should probably head back. I would be lying if I were to say that experience did not have me all keyed up and nervous. Was checking that my sidearm would easily come out of the holster every 5 seconds.
Heading out for a day trip this weekend and if not successful hopefully a deer with the rifle in a few weeks.
Summarized I clearly only know half of what I am doing but it's been a fun, educational, and semi frightening experience so far with season #2.
