Is this rule in the 2017 Athlete Guide for Kona new?

"6. Since the majority of the athletes will be on the course after dark, runners will be REQUIRED to wear reflective materials on the front and back of their shoes and clothing."

Don't know. I wouldn't know anything about running in an IM after dark.

Thought a glow-stick was a badge of honour in Kona? ;-)

I've never noticed them checking for this.

BTW, the assertion that the majority of athletes will be out on the course after dark isn't technically correct. You need to go around 11:15 to finish in (some) daylight, and if you look at the numbers well over half of the field does that.

Just wear your Norseman kit and you'll be fine.

Seems like most shoes have reflective material on the front and back already.

No plan of running in the dark @Dilbert😄

He he @GreatScott 😊 Looking forward to racing in the Kona heat after a cold Norseman (and autumn) 😉

No, it goes back to 1982/3 or so. Back then I went to Zoot and had them sew the stuff on my kit.

Best advice I got last year was to bring a headlamp for the run. I was very late finishing and it was very dark out there on the Queen K. I don't recall any of us BOP'ers wearing reflective materials.

That was definitely in there last year, but nobody was checking for that that I could see.

I didn't bring the headlamp, but I managed to get to the outskirts of town where the lights start just as it was getting dark, so I avoided the glowsticks.

Rule has been there 'forever'.

Most good running kits used to have some sort of reflective patches/labels.
But for the newer generations of Trisuits I do not see it that often anymore (cost-cutting?).

I have a reflective race-belt, as my kit is 'cheap' on reflective materials.
