This was supposed to be a relaxing Sunday afternoon wrenching in the garage!
Rear hub was buzzing and vibrating while coasting at high speed. Oh right, time to clean it and lube it. The axle nut was stuck fast. Took all my might to remove it. But then the axle nut broke while putting it back together at moderate force compared to what it took to take it apart. It was probably already damaged. Broken right where the threads begin. Tried to remove the broken piece from inside the axle but it is stuck.
I need an axle and the axle nut. See picture.
I could buy an entire hub but wouldn't feel comfortable lacing it myself. Amazon has replacement bearings, the pawls, the freehub body, the axle adaptors... pretty much everything except the axle! Weird considering they have a reputation for breaking. Ebay has all of one listing for the axle... from Greece. Yeah. No.
Any ideas? Yes I will talk to a bike shop tomorrow but they'll probably take 2 weeks and I'd need to drive there. If I find where to order this part from it'd be at my house in 2 days.
