I find that being BOP helps see the whole thing with a certain distance (physical as well) and a keen sense of humor.

I like to crack jokes while training and racing. I'll talk to anyone on the road, always waving and smiling.
As I was limping one day, I asked a super focused FOP runner on the other side of the road if he had not seen my left hip or my right knee earlier on.
Made him laugh real good.

I understand the focus and the dedication, but I mostly want to have fun and even at my own expense at times.

Only fools never change their minds and I'll never change my mind about that.

Join any FB Triathlon group and cringe at what passes for humor. It's embarrassing.
I'm guilty of it too. I'm generally hilarious, but Triathlon Me is average at best.

Stunning, really, given how mind-bendingly original they tend to be with their TRI-pun vanity license plates.

My two favorite triathlon jokes:

This is my favorite self-deprecating tri-joke to tell:

Me: "Hey! Wanna see a triathlete jump?!!!"
Them: "OK, Sure!!!"

Me: "Wanna see it again?!!!"

Getting chicked in a triathlon isn't such a bad experience.

The view from behind is often spectacular
