I don't know enough to have an informed opinion, but I found this interesting.

Taking two ships involved in ballistic missile defense in the same region of the world out of commission....

Makes a good conspiracy theory, but I doubt it.

Did you read the article? It talked more about commercial shipping than ABM.

Very unlikely. I'm not sure what hacking somebody's GPS does to cause two ships to collide...I would think that ships are similar to airplanes...you use GPS for your current position, and other sensors to avoid hitting things, like radar and visual lookout.

I think the ships' autopilots use gps to steer the ships.

Sure, but when you need to maneuver to avoid something that you've detected using another sensor, you take it off autopilot. Hopefully Slowguy will chime in here with his thoughts.

Great. Next we will have planes falling from the sky.

I think it is time we look into what these two are up too. There is only one guy who can do it.

Even if you managed to hack GPS, ships still have visual and radar means for collision avoidance. If someone was hacking GPS, people would likely catch on pretty quickly that something was wrong. At best an unreliable and complicated means of creating mischief on relatively slow moving vessels.

And if your signal was traced, there would be hell to pay as messing with international shipping would be a sure way to draw ire from all nations.
