Dan,
I guess thats for me anyway where the problem seems to be. I got into the sport for the challenge and to get back into shape. now 10 years has past and a few Ironman down and I just always have this been there done that feeling so training feels like work rather then something I enjoy.
Don't get me wrong I like to be in shape and run 3-4 miles in the morning but when I have free time I never find myself wanting to swim or hop on my bike for 50 miles (actually its the last thing I want to do)
I am certainly not saying the sport makes other people less fun, i was just wondering if anyone has a hard time balancing or feels the need to be 100% on when training
In a couple months in your new hobby, exhaustion allowing, you'll probably find yourself dabbling in occasional running, riding and/or swimming. If that's your new reality for 5-10yrs, more power to you. Down the road a bit you might get the triathlon bug again and start training seriously again. Go do different shit. Have fun. Don't feel a sense of obligation to stick with this hobby. Go be obsessed with some other hobby for a while. Find what reduced level of running/cycling/swimming is "fun" for you long term.
