Please help me identify year model of Zipp time trial wheels
Quote | Reply
Hi!

I'm trying to accurately identify the year model of this wheel set as I want to upgrade the axle to 11 speed and buy a track axle if possible.

I did contact Zipp, and they think it is not compatible. Anyone manage to make something this old compatible with 11 speed and or track use ?

PS: Whats the value of a front 1080, which I won't need.

Thanks

In am guessing 2009-2010. That kinda looks like the Campy freehub body. If it is just stick a Campy 11 on there and you are done.

The hub seems to have a mix of parts. Silver disc hub body indicates pre-2012. But the black axle and red end cap are later production. As Mike mentioned, you have a Campy freehub so it allows you to use Campy 11 speed cassettes with Shimano/SRAM. I thought Campy axles received a blue end cap to go with the blue freehub. So perhaps it was already upgraded from 10speed Shimano freehub to the Campy freehub for 11 speed use, because there is no Zipp upgrade for disc hubs to go from 10 to 11 Shimano.

This could also be a wheel assembled by Zipp around the October 2011 date when they switched over their rear hub configuration. Maybe they were mixing off the shelf parts for the disc builds? If this is a Super9 rear clincher they didn't produce many before the 2013 11 speed disc hub (all black), but there were definitely a limited number of 10 speed models in circulation. This may be one of those.

Here's a zipp hub timeline to help you identify the year.

My guess is that it's a 208 rear.

Making it compatible with an 11 speed cassette may be possible. The following applies to Shimano free hubs, but you you have a campy freehub body.
