WA 40K TT: Need Additional Participants
Washington State 40K TT will be held on Sunday, August 27th near the state capital. The event organizer is looking for 27 more participants to make it a go.

Race info: http://www.53eleven.com/...l-championships.html
Online registration: https://www.usacycling.org/register/2017-2267

It's a relatively flat and fast out-and-back course on good roads with just a few short rollers. Hopefully you can make it to the race of truth ;)

Kansas State TT is the same day, otherwise I'd get on my private Jet and roll with you ;). Seriously though, this will be my first open 40K TT so it will be interesting to see how things go not having to think about a 10K run afterwards. I've done a couple shorter TT's in the last couple years and they are a lot of fun and I encourage those who haven't done one to participate.

I would consider going if I could get a one day license for Cat 3. It's honestly not worth the expenses to drive up there plus tack on another $75 for a single race.

Won't be able to make it (this whole relearning to run thing has been harsh on my ability to ride), but definitely hope others join in. The course is fast and well looked after; had my best race in any sport ever in 2014 (won Cat 5, 4th overall with a ~52:10), and I hope it continues to run so I can take part next year.

I was able to get a one day license for Cat 4/5. I'm surprised they wouldn't let you buy a one day license for Cat 1,2,3. Will get in touch with the race organizer.

It'll be a good race, Eric and his crew are great. It's a bit of a trek for me from Bellingham, though. Main issue for me is that I can't ride my Andean, so I don't have a bike to take.

Any run that doesn't include pooping in someone's front yard is a win.

I just hope the air quality clears up by then. Blame Canada.

Changes that USAC made recently to push more people to buy annual licenses instead of the occasional 1 day.
Can only race lowest categories, changes in fees etc.

True for mass-start races, although I heard it was changing this year or next to allow higher-cat racers to race on a one-day licence (don't remember the exact details).

It shouldn't really matter in the case of a TT though; generally you can race up a category (or more) if you want in TT's, so there wouldn't be anything to stop a cat-5 on a one-day license from racing a higher category.

I'm in Seattle. Would they let us use a UCI illegal tri bike?

They should. As long as it's not a recumbent, it meets USAC rules.

BTW, handcyclists are welcome, and I do know a few who can post sub-hour for the 40K, so come on over.

OK people, doing a 40K TT is a reasonably accurate way to test your FTP. Just go all out for the entire distance, and your FTP is your NP over the entire duration. None of this 95% of the 20-minute AP short stuff.

Looks like 97 registrations as of today, but very few women are signed up. Which surprises me given some of the strong riders in the area.

Starting last year USAC changed their rules and now allow a one-day license for upper categories then they expanded it this year. It is more expensive than the beginner one day though, at $25

See section 1A2(C) at the bottom it talks about "Experienced One-Day Licenses"

According to that document, the one day license for experienced racers is only for former members, which I am not.

How did you get a Cat 3 upgrade without being a USAC member? In order to get upgrade point you have to hold an annual license.

Long live OBRA! Hmm. I'm signed up for the Mt. Ashland Hill Climb that day. I'd rather do a TT. But the Mt. Ashland Hill Climb starts about 200 yards from my house.......
